Last week, we saw smoke still rising from the thousands of lots from the recent ANA auctions. We wondered if so many coins hitting the market would drown out prices. Some coins sold dirt cheap during the sales, and many brought strong prices. It has been one heck of a rollercoaster ride.
As we began the week, we were pleased with our activities from the previous weekend. A long-time customer decided to start a new set; we sold a five-figure coin each day, and we even sold an “old friend.” Monday morning jolted us. We expected crickets. Instead, we had four callers during the first hour of business, resulting in a sale of $200,000.00. Interestingly, all the coins sold were gold. We sold the biggest coin, a $2.5 1911-D PCGS MS65+ CAC, without even posting it. Clearly, collectors realized it was more of a buyers market today, and they missed some really good deals in the auctions. Even dealers are paying us sizable profits on coins we purchased from the ANA sales.
In September, Long Beach and Tampa will have two back-to-back shows. Sadly, this is the first Long Beach Show in 35 years we are skipping. We do expect Tampa to be nothing less than great! We know everyone is looking forward to the Tampa Show.
Typically, after the summer ANA show, activities will slow down until late September or early October. We are already in a buyers market. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out. We think things will be okay. Our post-ANA show sales have been far more than past post-ANA sales!
GOLD
We still like gold. The general consensus is that gold will reach a price of $3,000.00. It certainly does not appear to want to go below $2,500.00. Keep in mind, this is an all-time high for the metal.
Here is what we recommend:
Buy all the better gold you can today. The amount of gold coins available in the ANA auctions was simply overwhelming. Once these coins enter what we call “the deep back hole,” they will remain unseen for a long time. We especially like coins with CAC pops UNDER 12.
We LOVE generic MS 65’s and MS66+ W/M PCGS CAC or CACG Saints. The premiums are just too small for one of the most beautiful and widely collected coins that exists. MS 64 pieces are okay, too. We just feel that if the premiums ever come back, the MS65s and the 66+ will have the biggest bounces.
LEGEND DOES HAVE A FEW PCGS CAC W/M MS 65’S IN STOCK. $3,375.00 each. Price is subject to change.
Our favorite commendation: BUILD A GOLD TYPE SET. We can help with this. A Type set can include gold liberties to the entire gold series, or whatever series of your desire and grades. A Type Set offers a great deal of flexibility.
Finally, given gold’s all-time highs and a slight dip in the rare coin market, consider trading your bullion into rare coins. We are currently working with several people on projects like this. We will assist you in selecting only the best coins with the highest potential.
Call or email us to discuss your desires. We can help. Our fees are super reasonable for liquidating your bullion.
THE EXCEEDINGLY RARE PAN PAC COPPER, SILVER, GOLD PATTERNS WITHOUT S MINT MARK
We believe this is the ONLY set that exists. We built a set for Simspon, but eventually the set was broken up. There are only two known pieces of gold PAN PACs. The Simspon gold Pan Pac, PCGS PR64 non CAC, brought $750,000.00.
This set was built for a longtime (35 year) customer of ours many years ago. For at least 20 years, these coins have not left his bank vault. It’s hard to believe that out of all the items Legend has handled, this particular set is by far one of our favorites. In our opinion, it was miraculous to be able to construct one set, let alone two.
Coins like these have no borders. They fit into a box of 20, any Commem set, and ANY pattern set. These pieces are a true numismatic treasure.
Set price: $1,250,000.00.
See the listing for more details.
