Just as we were preparing for the dead of winter to begin with our biz, something happened. We made several unexpected sales. Collectors all of the sudden just popped up and bought coins. It was no record breaking week, but it was one that was more then satisfying. Included in the buyers were a few NEW collectors. That is really heart warning.
We will discuss the year from our view point in the next Market Report next Saturday.
It is NOT hype when we tell you for the most part-ALL coins are CHEAP. Even if you think you are paying too much for a real quality eye appealing piece, think about its value for tomorrow-not today.
PCGS CAC
With the new Registries and price guides, we are now clearly seeing an up tick in sales. Collectors now have the tool they need to understand paying the premiums for CAC coins. They can understand why a PCGS CAC coin can be DOUBLE or MORE vs a NGC NO CAC (example: $20 Lib NGC MS66 $4,500.00. PCGS CAC $10,000.00+).
Its okay NOT to buy CAC coins-you just now will have clearer picture of the real values of those coins. Sad to say, all this is a result of gradeflation-BUT it is really now being tackled.
Yes, we are PCGS CAC BULLS, but we predict there will be a HUGE price rise in the coins that have fallen the hardest that are PCGS CAC. We look at things like MS66 Barber 25C in PCGS CAC MS66 CAC. Say a date has only 5 beaned. Collectors will get it that they can buy the whole CAC pop say for UNDER $10,000.00. And considering CAC has been around now for 10+ years, they can assume, unless a hoard breaks out, hey that is a really stupid cheap number. Coins like that could easily DOUBLE overnight.
In the end, the price definition (spread) between CAC and NON CAC will work better in the marketplace. It will actually make some coins more affordable and be safer to buy.
We are not optimistic about the FUN Show, BUT we are highly optimistic the 1st quarter of next year will be a small rally and upward turn for the market.
