Our version of being closed is to too work! No sandy beaches for us this year. We ‘ll be hidden in the office for a few hours a day emailing and calling people looking for coins. Then we will be at the FUN Show Wed+Thur only. Friday it could be time to post NEWPS. Too much summer fun-NOT! Especially NOT if we don’t find any coins.

One of our coins of the week was a $1 1879-S PCGS MS66 DMPL CAC. We could have sold six of them!!! We used to be able to find dozens of similar coins and actually earn a living. Today, we have hit a brick wall. Can’t find ANY coins similar to the 79S DMPL and our income has dropped dramatically. Its gone from euphoria of trading to the frustration of nothing happening.
We are convinced in our minds that the small amount of coins to be had-will appear at the FUN Show-NOT the ANA. Dealers are eager to trade and some have held a few things back. But then just about every dealer we know is going there early (FUN) with no coins and an open checkbook (like us). We think at ANA a few bigger coins might appear in dealers cases, but little of anything else. Even the ANA auctions are not jam packed with too many great coins (these are normally over the top mega sales). While its a great time to have demand far exceeding supply, its also what will slow the market too. The good news is we do see some life of returning. There have been more inquiries from people wanting to sell. But every few actually are. At least its a small start.
A semi-self serving suggestion: SELL INTO THE MARKET. While no one knows where the top is, at least your not selling into defeat and the market turning down. Its especially wise to sell your dupes and get liquid. All the better coins for sale today are “cash” coins that a dealer would either not want a trade for or will cheap you on a trade. We also suggest taking some profits off the table now. Example: We will pay $4,150.00 for W/M PCGS MS66 CAC (only) Saints. We liked them at $3,600.00, not at todays prices. Many of you should be in profit.

BIG MONEY SEES A FUTURE IN COLLECTABLES
First Collectors Universe got taken private by a group of sports card enthusiasts at a huge premium. Now, NGC has been bought by an investment group including Blackstone and Jay-Z for a half a billion dollars.
Obviously both groups (made up of very successful and wise people) see tremendous room for growth in collectables. Both groups claim to be ready to pour money in to make the companies bigger and better. No one has released any specific plans-although Collectors Universe has purchased in full Goldin Sports Card Auctions.
While we are concerned, we have seen no radical changes. Its been business as usual. So long as they invest in graders and hold the standards to the proper levels, we think this could all end up a huge boost for the coin market. Only time will tell what it means to have both major grading services be in private hands that need a return on their investments.
