Who said it has to be July 4th for fireworks? The FUN Show had them!
Legend at the very last moment changed plans on attending FUN (we actually were at our flights gate). We did not like the idea of traveling in a storm (which turned out to be limp in Orlando) and we realized there would be few if any “Legend caliber” coins to buy.
We knew prior to the show several of our equals were attending. That would normally be great, BUT every one of them was NOT bringing any coins-only their checkbooks. In the end, several cancelled. Still the show would not have worked for us. PCGS CAC product in better coins really is only found in the auctions these days.
Our “super secret stealth seller” attended. From the moment he hit the ground Tue prior to the show, until he was nearly sold out he was on fire. We spoke to him Thursday evening and he sold a whopping $700,000.00 as of then. Most important, there were few chisels. That is tremendous! Especially considering many big guns did not attend. As usual he sold soup to nuts. He did not have much if any bigger or better Legend caliber coins.
Another report we received was from Legend Auctions who did attend and had a table. They told us many people stopped by to check out Legends inventory. Obviously they were disappointed we did not attend. However they had some highlights of the current Regency 46 sale which many happily viewed. We did see a spike in bidding since.
As expected the show was packed by collectors. The few dealers we spoke too said it felt great to be back in action. There was both buying and selling activity. All good news.
Next up: ANA. We expect ANA also to be packed. This time the big guns WILL be there. However, like at FUN, the coins won’t. Even if every collector had attended FUN and brought coins for sale, it would not have been nearly enough to quench the markets deep appetite. Plus, the new market for better coins-auction. And as you can see, both FUN and ANA do not have their usual filled to the brim auctions. In fact we think there will be a mood of disappointment since the ANA Sales are the week AFTER the show. Still, ANA will be place to do biz and rekindle friendships.
