THE BALTIMORE SHOW

NOT GOOD NOT BAD

We feel overall the show at best for us was mixed.  We really can not comment on if the overall show for people was good or bad. We heard many mixed reviews from our peers. One thing we will say, business was being done.

Turn out by collectors was weak. However turn out by dealers was strong.

Our “secret stealth seller” is really the GOAT of sellers. He did over $700,000.00 at the show. We did not even do that, nor did many of the big dealers. The fact he sold that much does show there is a wholesale demand for coins.

We came in 40% less then where we wanted to be. Our profits though were much better then we expected. It was a struggle the whole show. Our “first shot” dealer bought zero-and they were tight with everyone else too. That spooked us. After them, we hit a string of dealers who started buying. We did wholesale several high five figure coins. Even though we were selling, it really  more like being on bike and peddling with no chain. We knew when the show opened, sure enough the wholesaling would stop. It did as it always does the first day. The second day we were doing deals again, just they were more spread out.

We knew dealers needed cash, so we were as aggressive as possible buying. We did buy many cool coins in the price ranges we had been craving badly $1,000-$10,000.00. As this is being written we’ve already sold a few coins. Do note: we saw NO dealers just dumping coins It was the last major show of the year so some (like us) wanted to get in more of a cash position.

The market today is all about giving people a reason to buy. This show created few opportunities and collectors responded. It is our opinion, there was a SMALL POSITIVE bump up in the market at the show. We do believe people will now retreat until FUN in January. Again, collectors were buying. There was no stampede or anything.

SOMETHING BIG IS COMING THIS WEEK AT CAC-THEY WILL BE MAKING AN ANNOUNCEMENT SHORTLY!

THE AUCTION

We actually only putzed around in it. Hard to believe there was little for us in the sale. The 50C 1838-O sold for a more then good price of $504,000.00. It was interesting who did NOT bid on it. This coin could have possibly hit higher numbers if just the one person had bid. Still congrats to the new owner-great coin!

It as safe say the rare coin side did well. The medals of course did great. But then there was some really rare items in high grade being auctioned in medals.

We still believe most collectors just love bidding and buying in auctions. This sale for sure proved that theory.

BUY THESE COINS TODAY

Besides PR 3CN’s we really like $3 Gold pieces in AU. You CAN build a complete collection of them. We’re back to recommending ALL PROOF BARBERS 64-67. You can build sets of those cheaper then you think.

Love gold type sets even more now that gold has backed off for now. Love $2.5 and $5 1900-1908 sets MS65-66.

Or build a box of 20. A box of 20 are the best coins you can afford at he highest grades you can afford. A box of 20 should make most other coins pale in comparison. There does not have to be any theme to a box of 20.

Last we highly recommend building a Type set. Its the only set you can build where you totally control what to put in it. You do not have registry pressure while being able to actually find the coins you need.

We love building sets. That is what we do best. What would you like to build? We’d love to work with you!

NEWPS

As we mentioned before, we were finally able to buy some coins. This week and next you’ll see some great reasonably priced offerings.

We also were shocked that prices seemed so much more reasonable by sellers (being broke never hurt most dealers greed). The value offered today is unprecedented! How can collectors not buy? Waiting for a show and the herd is not always the best thing to do.

This weeks highlights include:

1C  1883 PCGS MS67 CAC  OGH

10C J-855 1870 PCGS PR66 CAC  EX SIMPSON

$1    1882 MORGAN PCGS PR68 CAMEO CAC  EX JACK LEE

$3  1867 PCGS MS64  CAC

Do not forget to check our regular inventory-we have many incredible coins that are waiting to be placed in a great collection like yours! Of course we’ll work with you to get you into the coins of your desires.

WE ARE DONE POSTING NEWPS. IMAGES WILL BE UP MONDAY.
