Our business has tailed off dramatically. We think two major shows and a major auction starting this week and continuing to next week could be the reasons. The Long Beach auction is unusually strong, and we know it is commanding a lot of attention. Plus, add in our woefully low inventory, which we just cannot replace anything we sell. That leads to a very quiet time for us.
We’re hoping the market will go back to its humming ways after the sales and shows March 1. One thing we do know: our super-secret salesman is having a really good Long Beach show so far—and he has been there only 2 days. He said he did not expect to sell as much as he did. It seems to us the majority of dealers need coins. They apparently are paying slightly over the levels. The only problem is that most are not filling their exact Want Lists (like us). You can offer strong money, and the coins just are not appearing.
GOLD
What can we say? People care about buying generics again—to a degree. We know we are selling as many MS 65 Saints as we can get our hands on. In fact, we even have several people new to buying coins, and they are getting the coin bug too!
We can see everything gold continuing to be strong to red hot for a while. The biggest problem is how the published price guides report things. Very few even have a reporter who checks the numbers. So right now, we know to buy a better gold coin with some rarity; it costs us MORE than most listed prices.
THE EASTERN SHORE COLLECTION OF PL AND DMPL MORGANS
We are honored that the Eastern Shore Collector picked Legend to disperse his lifetime collection of PL and DMPL Morgans. You can tell this collection was a long-term project. When we met the collector, we could immediately tell his passion for the coins. He hinted at regret in selling them; however, he is in the deaccessioning phase of his life.
One thing he tried to do was make sure every coin has some contrast. The majority do. We are sure you will like his coins as much as he did.
A note: we are offering here only the NON-CAC coins we like and that meet our strict standards. There are a few we think should have been beaned, but CAC said nope. It is a matter of opinion. The PL and DMPL areas we tend to disagree with them often. Virtually all of the coins have been to CAC.
