The first 2 days of this past week we had explosive sales. We sold coins ranging from $2,000.00-$75,000.00 off our website. As a few of you know, our volume exceeded our ability to ship them all in a day! What is going on? We’d prefer an even selling market vs this stop and start. Our only guess is that there are so few quality coins available-even in the bigger auctions to satisfy collectors hunger. We also believe the amount of collectors seeking quality coins are greater than ever.
So why are coins really not going up in value except for when there is an auction? Simple, private transaction are not recorded by the price guides. Plus, there are so many coins that have not traded in years price guides can only adjust what is in front of them. Makes it tougher for everyone unless you are out to just buy the coin and price is not your #1 concern.
TYPE COINS ARE TOO CHEAP
We know of one major dealer who is now buying a certain series of Type for himself. “Too cheap” is what he said. You know when dealers start buying for themselves it’s definitely time for you to buy as well. For the past 3 years better gold coins had all the shine leaving many other areas in the dust bin. Type coins actually drifted down a bit. However, rare, better Type held its own. Looking at the market, overall, things like MS 25C+50C are cheap in our opinion. We also recommended doing a PR Buffalo set in 66-67. Well someone took us up on it-and we can’t even find those. That is when you buy! Do your homework, many areas of Type have become too cheap. Bust Type is one area, MS Seated Dollars maybe too cheap because they are so rare. Of course all Nickel Coinage has suffered from lack of strong demand as well. We do see gold type will continued to be strong and bring interest.
