Without any hesitation, we pronounce this coin a GEM AU. For a 1797 that is incredibly rare and is incredible preserved! No question this coin made its round in circulation for a very brief spell, but then was carefully stored for a some time. The surfaces are remarkably clean and smooth. We used a powerful glass and found no hidden problems anywhere-which made this coin more impressive to us. There is a faint trace of luster. A please and totally original mix of deep pewter/faint olive colors are spread all over. There is a slightly darker band in the center. This is absolutely NOT a dull or drab coin. Miss Liberty and the details are exceptionally struck. The wear is light and even. Its amazing how much of the eagles feathers can be seen without a glass. The eye appeal is heart pounding and just gorgeous! PCGS 6, NGC 6, CAC 1. There is a AU58 and and MS64 higher in CAC. Apparently this coin sold for $28,200.00 03/2017. Even a NON CAC piece sold for $21,150.00 in 2017. We strongly believe our asking price is cheap for this coin! Once this coin is sold, good luck on finding anything similar–for years.
