J-73 50C 1838 RESTRIKE PCGS PR65

This is an R-5 (31-75) Silver Restrike Gobrecht designed Pattern. It is widely considered to be one of the most beautiful Patterns designs ever that did not make it into a regular coin. Legend has owned the regular 1838 Proof Half Dollar too. This Pattern coin by far has deeper mirrors. We absolutely rank this coin in the top 2% for the grade. This coin is also VERY high end in quality. It is also a borderline Cameo. It is so above and beyond the other J-73’s we have seen. Deep mirrors bean vividly from all over. They are ultra clean, have amazing clarity, and are highly reflective. The die crack on the reverse is as deep as we have ever seen one. A gorgeous mix of totally original blue/purple/pale green/gold colors swirl all over. Miss Liberty and the details are thickly frosted and have full strikes (something we do not see often on these). The eye appeal is phenomenal! We have trouble putting this coin back in the box! PCGS 6, NGC 0, CAC 1. PCGS possibly has graded only 2 higher (one of course is in Simpson). Here is an amazing stat, the last PCGS PR65 to sell in auction: 2003! This coin is 100% FRESH to the market having been away since the 1940’s. With a regular PCGS PR64 Proof selling for $129,250.00 in 2014, you’d think a coin like this -in such a spectacular condition would be worth at least $25,000.00.
