Three Dollar Gold pieces are one of our all time favorite series. When ever we find a nice piece (grade does not matter), we try and buy it. This coin was a “no brainer”.
Boldly semi-prooflike mirrors have tons of flash. The mirrors do not expose and cuts. There are some scattered old tiny ticks. The luster is really strong. Both sides are a GEM original gold color. There are no discolorations or spots. The wear is very light and you can only see it using a strong glass. All of the details are frosted (there is good contrast) and are well struck. The eye appeal is terrific!
Only 1300 pieces were minted. PCGS 44, NGC 93, CAC 12. In 04/2025 a PCGS CAC example brought $8,400.00. We paid MORE for this coin! The price guides as you may expect are behind a bit. The Collectors Universe value is only $9,000.00. This is a very underrated date!
