Typically, activity winds down at the end of the year. Not so in our Regency 49 auction!
We could not believe the last-minute huge wave of registrations. The eyeballs had been at record levels, and we were wondering when collectors would show up. They all did-at the very last minute! We are proud to say 90% of the sale went to collectors while we enjoyed a 95% sell through. We are also pleased to say there were several serious NEW participants. These collectors just started dabbling in the rare coin market, seek top quality, and know to pay for it. They were highly aggressive in the sale.

Across the board prices were strong and exceeded our estimates. There was strong action on the majority of coins-including six figure coins. Collectors clearly still seek nice coins!
The next Legend Auctions sale is our 50th and the end of January. It will be the ultimate blockbuster, again with lots of stunning gold. An advance list is now posted and is being added to every Friday. Stay tuned!
In our opinion, the overall coin market is ending on a strong note. GOLD is still red hot while other areas are a bit hit or miss with activity.
COINS ARE NOT INSTANT PROFITS
Yes gold is red hot. Chances are the coins you bought in 2018-2019 and early 2020 when the market was slower are in profits today. Coins you JUST bought in 2021 are not in full profits yet. Most likely, you had to pay OVER the market to buy them today. The rare coin market is NOT like the stock market. There are cycles (like the up one we are in now) but over all its a LONG-TERM hold. Do NOT buy coins and then seek to flip them. Even though things are good, it’s still a risk and you still may have a way to go to make some money.
We’d venture to say that generic gold is up 20% since ANA. We are strong believers any time there is a jump like that-TAKE YOURS PROFITS! Collectors sitting with things like PCGS CAC W/M MS66 Saints they paid $3,500.00 in 2019 can now sell them for $4,500.00. Who knows what 2022 will bring? We fret the lack of coins could actually slow the market and god knows what the Fed is going to do.
Remember, not all areas of the coin market are enjoying strong numbers. Work with your dealer to navigate all this. You can come our way ahead!
