Nice coins will always sell. This week started on a quiet note. However, by Wednesday, activity became strong – just like that. Leading the way was the FINEST KNOWN 50C 1859-S PCGS MS68 CAC EX ELIASBERG. This coin is also the FINEST KNOWN for all the NO MOTTO 50C that is CAC. We actually owned this coin back in 2014. It had been away since then. Throw away the price guides on this one – not even close to the six figures it brought.
We are a bit stymied that generic gold coins have become a bit sluggish. But then the crazy go-go pandemic buying period is long gone. Still, with generic premiums almost non existent and gold trying to stay above $2000, we expected more activity. NOW is the time to buy coins like these. Take advantage when demand is soft and not be part of the crowd when demand is high as are the premiums. Now is a great time to build a gold type set as well. Of course, better gold is as strong as ever.

Many coins have become so darn elusive. Where are all the mid date GEM Standing 25C FH? legend would love to buy white PCGS CAC FH examples of the mid better dates. How about a better white Merc 10C FB or Bust Halves in MS64 (PCGS CAC)? Better CAC Morgan DMPL’s – please offer if you have any in PCGS/CAC. Proof gold, even with Simpson selling his huge trove of Proof Gold, there are no coins floating around or being offered. There are so many areas where coins have taken a major step up in rarity and are not seen anymore.
